On the Walloomsac River there's a paper mill
And the dirty water runs right by my door
And that old covered bridge must've seen it all
It's been there for a hundred years or more

And they open a pipe every single day
In the side of that concrete factory wall
And what they let loose turns the river grey
And I'm afraid it's gonna to kill us all

Well we fish that river and we take a swim
Wadin’ in the murky current there
No idea what we're gettin’ in
And nobody ‘round us seems to care

And somethin’ surges like the blood from a wound
Out the pipe in that crumblin’ factory wall
And it muddies the waters like the clouds do the moon
And I'm afraid it's gonna kill us all

And the rains bring the river creepin’ close
Like a guest that was never any friend
In the well, in the air, in the garden rows
Quietly, slowly poisoning

And what rushes right out the side of the mill
Is like a bomb that is slowly goin’ off
Whatever it is makes the fishes lie still
And I hope and pray it doesn't kill us all

Now Artie never lived to be a man
The cancer took him long before his time
And every single house in the neighborhood
Has seen its share of misery and cryin’

And a torrent tumbles out of the side of the mill
Rainin’ down that daily dose of scum
We watch and we wait, and we wonder who will…
Survive, and who will succumb

How many will it take before it's done
It's like a slow tickin’ kind of a bomb
We're all prayin’ that our turn will never come…
